Please pass the salt

How is it that I'm eating a diet so high in sodium?  I never dreamed that my sodium intake was so high.  I seem to go over my limit every day, no matter what foods I eat.  I don't eat out much.  I usually cook from scratch.  But there it is nonetheless.  Heaven knows how high it would be if I added salt to my food at the table!  I'd probably lose a pound or two if I just cut down on the salt.

Finally some progress

Thursday, February 7, 2013 at 10:07 AM filed under Diet & Nutrition postings

I just weighed in today and have lost 2 1/2 pounds since I started last week!   I know that kind of weight loss doesn't last, but I'm enjoying the moment.  I'm keeping track of my calories like a hawk, and following the Eating Light magazine's 13-week "Drop 25" diet plan.  I just didn't seem to be making any progress until I started working with a diet plan.

Back in the saddle today

After yesterday's slide, I'm back to keeping my calories under control.  Sunday was way over my limit (including a second dinner at midnight while studying).  However I did very well today.  I even skipped breakfast, to make up for dinner # 2 last night.  I know that's not advised, but I sure had eaten enough last night to keep me from starving!  I made a new grocery list today, with all low fat recipes on the menu. Tomorrow I go shopping!

Church potlucks

I didn't do too well today.  At home someone "generously" had purchased powdered sugar donuts for breakfast, so breakfast was one donut and coffee.  Lunch was at the church potluck, which ended up being a whopping 900 calories in one meal!  It was someone's birthday, so I had half a piece of store-bought birthday cake.  The meal was lots of calorie-laden casseroles and heavy soups.  Delicious, but not so good for my waistline.  I tried to kee

Whittling the calories down

 Unrated

I'm still eating too many calories in a single day in order to lose weight.  Somehow I seem to either have way too many or just over too many.  I guess I'll have to give up some of those kid-pleasing foods I've been preparing for so many years.  Yes, they are easy to make in a rush and the kids are sure to eat them, but my scale says "Not you, lady."  Who knew just two slices of Tombstone pepperoni and sausage pizza were so many calories!  And

Okay, I went to the Y today and got a Y membership for me and the boys.  Let's hope I actually use that pool more than once or twice instead of just dreaming about it!  I have a new suit, have to scrounge up some goggles from the kids and I'm all set!

Now I need a distraction from thinking about dinner in an hour... otherwise I'll go have a "snack" and end up having an early dinner that would put cookie monster to shame!

Getting started

I am ready to get rid of these 25 pounds I've picked up going back to college.  I'm middle aged and graduating in four months.  I intended to gain a bachelor's degree, not 25 pounds!  "Pleasingly plump" doesn't look so good after 40...

I think the biggest challenge I'm facing so far is PORTION CONTROL!  After learning how many calories I've been consuming using the diet tracking on this website, it's no wonder my jeans ha
