YAY CARL!
Congratulations Carl! That's awesome, you are a real inspiration to all of us! Thank you also for the advice and information, I am going to take you up on that.

To maintain my current weight I should be eating 1850 calories a day (according to this website). So it recommends that I should eat 1400-1500 calories a day to lose weight. For about 2.5 months, I did this and ate healthy. I lost 10lbs right a way and then plateaued for 2 months even though I was exercising and switching up what I ate. I felt constantly hungry and weak sometimes after working out. I work out 3-4 times a week and burn 300-600 calories each time. I also have a physical job and am on my feet 45-55 hours per week. So now I shoot for 1700-1800 calories per day. Do you think that sounds right? I've started losing weight again slowly. Please let me know what you think.

Congrats Cat on losing another pound, slow and steady's the way to go! I implore you to try the once daily push ups, sit ups thing. 10 minutes and a little exercise is 100% better than none at all. You can do it!

I've lost 3.5lbs since I decided to be serious about -10 by Feb 28. I'm very excited because I feel like I've been plateau-ing forever.

Thank you
Hey Cathy,

Thank you. Living in Florida and 20 minutes from the beach, I have set a new goal to be beach ready for the summer. Wish me luck.

Hey Rachel,

Thank you. Glad to hear you are past the plateau and congratulations on the 3.5 lbs. When I talked with a dietitian a while back she suggested that men should not go below 1600 calories and women should not go below 1400 calories a day. 1700-1800 sounds good. To keep my calorie counts down, I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables.

You have probably heard this already, but I am going to suggest it anyway because I know it is true for me. If you hear your stomach growl or feel hungry you should eat. Try eating high fiber foods because they fill you up and take longer to digest which means you feel full longer. If you body feels that it is not getting enough food, it will focus on storing energy (calories) instead of using it. For me, I eat every two to three hours. I usually have 3 larger meals, and a snack between my larger meals. Since I started this food regiment about 6 months ago, I have had more energy and hardly feel hungry. My food log looks like a grocery list everyday.

Also, try drinking a glass of water before you eat you will feel full quicker. Remember, it take roughly 15 minutes for your stomach to tell you brain that it is full or no longer hungry.

Hi Everyone!
Hi Everyone,
You don't need luck Carl you're going to have an AWESOME summer!! Enjoy!!
Hi Rachel, glad you've gotten through your plateau!! Well Done!
Well, no change this week I have a lot on my mind I have to have some hospital tests and can't concentrate on my weightloss at the moment guess i'm a bit worried and need to get the problem resolved before I can focus on my goals. Sounds weird I know but when you have health issues nothing else matters.
Hi Sheena, How are you doing?

Sick
Hi Everyone,

Well I haven't done much...i've been eating much better but everything is on hold right now cause I'm soooo sick :( it figures, as soon as I'm all ready and pumped and really want to make an effort I get sick! Oh well, I'll just have to get through this bug and then get back on track again....it's not all wasted though, I'm eating better still....

How's everyone else doing? Hello htj2010 what are your goals and are you going to join us in losing 10 pounds per month?

I don't think weightloss is about being perfect each day but about the slow changes you make over all. It doesn't matter that you mess up for one day as long as you know tomorrow you'll do better.

I'm still here :)
Hey yall!

Carl, thanks for all the good advice!

Sheena, sorry you're so sick! :( Flu season now, allergy season soon, not anything we can do about that.

htj, welcome to the group! I agree with Cat, getting into a physical activity you enjoy is a great idea! Biking, walking, hiking, and swimming are a couple things I love to do and hardly think of as exercise. Something else you could try is cutting a few things out of your diet. Maybe one or two things per week to ease into it, like sodas, chips, or fast food. You can do it!

Cat, I totally know what you mean about health issues. I've had a few of my own recently and some days I can diet and exercise to get it off my mind, and other days I eat to comfort myself. I try to think that no matter what is wrong, being healthier over all (maintaining my diet/workout routine) is going to help any problems I may have. Much easier said than done! That's crazy that you're snowed in! In Atlanta it's been in the 60's everyday for the past week or so and I am loving it! The weather has kind of lit a fire under my ass, GET SKINNY BECAUSE CANT HIDE YOUR FAT IN SUMMER CLOTHES!

We're changing the menu at my work and I've been making new "test desserts" that will be potentially on soon. It's never been so hard to be a pastry chef on a diet :( Sorry I always write so much yall! Hope we've all lost a couple pounds by Feb 28!

Me too
Hi everyone!
I've never done one of these before, but I've read all of your posts from the beginning of this thread, and would love to join you. I hope commenting on this topic is the right way to do it, or am I supposed to reply to the last post on here? I started my weight loss journey in April of 2010 and have lost 18 pounds so far. I lose a few then stall out for a few weeks then lose a bit more then stahl etc. Christmas saw me gain a few, but relost them in January. Now here I sit. I'm just struggling to maintain thru the rest of this looooonnnnggg winter until I can get outside on my bike again. It's just not the same riding a stationary bike. I can ride twice as long outside as I can in the basement. I also go to Curves 4-5 times per week.

I have a serious case of portion distortion and have found that buying preportioned foods for lunch goes a long way in controlling what I eat. I do relatively well at my other meals, but it's the evening snacking that really gets me. After I've worked all day, served and cleaned up after supper, gotten my bike ride in and at long last can sit down in my easy chair, I end up thinking I need to be rewarded for getting thru yet another busy day. hard to control that kind of thinking. I try to find low calorie things that I enjoy that I can have quite a bit of. Those items are tough to find! How about all of you? Any suggestions for snackage?

Hi Everyone!
Hi Everyone,
Rachel keep right on yapping I love it and you're so right you can't hide fat under summer clothes i'll be dreading it if I can't get my weight down its alright in winter you can hide under big sweaters lol.

Hi Leunybin, Love the name haha know what you mean about the bike I feel the same. You know what I used to eat a LOT of, diet jello and light coolwhip (we don't have fat free here) it always felt like such a cheat but was really low cal and satisfied the sweet tooth sometimes i'd have two a day hehe.

Off work again today decided not to risk sliding around. I've not accomplished much mostly online lol. Well should do something I guess.
Bye ~ Cathy.
