not gonna happen this way
Hi all!
A great deal of overindulgence last night. Not something I do frequently but we ended up at Blarney's last night and it wasn't enough to have a few glasses of wine, but I also had to order not one, but two orders of fries with supper! I'm putting it down to temporary insanity. Normally when we go out I order a sandwich and only eat half of it and half the fries. This has been my method of being able to indulge without totally surrendering. Tonight being Friday, I like to have some marguritas. Thanks heavens for weight watchers one point marguritas!! I don't do the weight watchers point thing, but got this recipe from a friend and absolutely love it!! Saves a lot of calories over drinking wine. I notice from reading the earlier posts that you guys all like to indulge in some refreshing adult beverages too. Glad to know I'm not the only one out here doing battle with the bulge that likes to indulge!! Cat, thanks for the suggestion of light jello. I believe that would just do it. Add that light cool whip and it's gotta seem indulgent.

Have a fantastic weekend all!!

Evening Snack
Hey leunybin,

I have started eating after my evening work out, I was against this for the longest time; however, I need the energy for my morning work outs. I still eat healthy foods. I usually eat a banana, low fat yogurt, and I may (most times) have one serving of peanut butter. These foods are easy on the stomach and good for you and your digestive track. This usually equals up to about 450 calories. Lucky for me I have increased my calorie intake also.

Hi htj,

If there is anything we can help with please ask. My best advise is to start of slow and steady. That is how I started 5 minutes of exercise a day and dropping one bad food at a time. It took me a year to get to my goal.

Hey Rachel,

Do you have any healthy or semi healthy deserts? I am really tired of granola bars.

Hey Sheena,

I hope you get to feeling better.

Hey Cat,

I had to look up the meaning of snow day (JK). We don't get that here in FL.

I do have desserts!
I have been experimenting with healthy(ish) desserts! I've come up with some good stuff and I have some helpful substitutions.

In most baked goods (especially of the cake, cup cake, muffin, and quick breads (like banana and pumpkin spice loafs) there are some easy substitutions. If you ever have questions I'd be happy to help.

1 egg = 1/4 cup of applesauce (no sweetener added available) or
1/4 cup : banana puree or squash or pumpkin puree or
2 Tbsp vinegar + 1/4 cup any liquid (ie water, milk, booze)

1 cup oil or butter = 1 cup apple sauce or banana puree (I recommend replacing no more than 75% of total fat needed)
1 cup nut butter (ie almond or peanut butter)

Milk can be substituted for almond or soy milk.
1 cup buttermilk = 1 c skim milk + 1 Tbsp lemon juice
Sour cream and creme friache can be subbed for non/ low fat yogurt

I like eating 'whole foods,' I try to avoid processed foods and artificial ingredients. If that's not a worry to the cook, all kinds of artificial butters, sugars, and eggs are readily available at all grocery stores.

I've got several recipes on fitclick, I'll keep you updated if I do more:
Light Creamy Fruit Pie (no bake)
Cupcakes (no butter or oil)
Apple & Banana Spice Muffins no egg no dairy
Peanutbutter Chocolate Oatmeal Drop Cookies

Hope you like something!

Our month is up, how'd we do? I'm weighing tomorrow morning, will get back to you on my month.

how did everyone do??
Here we are on the first of march. I'm hoping to hear good results from everyone. For myself, I'm actually afraid to get on the scale, but today is weigh in at curves so I guess I'm stuck doing it. Cat, did you get all your test results back? Hope all is well. Carl, thanks for the advice. Sometimes when trying to lose weight it's hard to remember that yes, you do have to take in calories. I do usually have a snack in the evening but I try to limit it to about 200 calories. Mondays always seem to be my highly motivated day, so I managed to get in a bike ride last night. Tuesdays I'm usually good at follow thru too. it's later in the week that I seem to tank. This weeks obligations are already piling up so I'm trying hard to plan around them so I can get in a ride on Thursday night too.

htj, where are you?? Jump in here anytime. Remember, every one of us has gone thru this same thing and we are so willing to help you with suggestions, advice and just a plain old shoulder to lean on. Keep it in your head that this is not a quick fix and you're done. This takes time. Like Carl said, start with a few minutes exercise and eliminating one high fat food at a time. Use the fitclick calculator to see how many calories you should be able to consume in a day. Pick something you like to do, whether it's walking, swimming, biking or just plain dancing in the kitchen! It all adds up. Use the fitclick information on how many calories food contains. Sometimes it's very surprising how low or high a food is.

OK, guys. time for the next 10 pounds! Spring is coming and we can't hide under bulky sweaters anymore!

Count me in!!
Well, it's the first of March and I think this is the perfect time to join you guys. =) I've always struggled with my weight. My husband and I have been discussing having another baby and I am determined to drop some weight first. I'm doing pretty good at watching what I eat. My big problem is exercising. I enjoy it (I have Zumba and love it!) but it's hard to find time when my 2 year old isn't under foot. lol.

Thanks to all of you for the awesome tips I have read in this thread so far. Tons of great ideas and inspiration. =)

Not too bad....
Not sure if that's a cop out, but either way I've lost 5lbs since the beginning of February. I'm happy. Didn't make it to 10, but my bare minimum goal was 5 lbs, definitely better than nothin. I agree with leuny, 10lbs by the end of March! We can do it lets stay on top of each other.

Carl, I've been meaning to ask, do you drink alcohol? If so how often, and what do you think about it's affects on losing weight. I drink frequently and I count it into my calories, but I heard it slows your metabolism.

Welcome imadreamer! Zumba is really neat , I went to a demo one time and really enjoyed it. Do you have a video or are you going to classes?

Cat, thinking of you and sending positive energy your way. How are you doing?
Hope the rest of yall are doing well! Post up people!

Can I join too?
I set a goal for myself to lose at least 10 pounds a month. Thought that I would join your guys group, it would be nice to talk to some people who are trying to do the same thing. Sometimes I find its hard for me to get motivated to do things like exercise, and at my current weight it is not the easiest thing for me to do right now. But I am working on it. I have a treadmill here and I did 20 minutes on it today. Also have an eliptical machine did 20 minutes on it as well. Really plan to watch what I eat! I also plan to exercise on each machine for at least 20 minutes a day until I can do more than that. I tried doing the exercise thing all at once but I couldnt do it so i broke it up, i learned I could do the eliptical machine for 20 mins at a time but had a hard time doing it that long on the treadmill. I plan to hop back on those machines for another go around in a little bit! I am proud of myself for exercising today, like I said sometimes its really hard for me. Soon I am going to add in some walks/jogs right now though its too cold!

Hi everyone
Hey Rachel,
Congrats on the 5 lbs. Thanks for the sweets tips. I will check out your recipes. I am not a great cook so I will see how it goes.

I did drink a lot. When I was put on blood thinners last year, I must limit my drinking. So, I drink on the weekends and at parties. I limit my self to red wine which is actually good for you in moderation. Although I drink a little more than moderation, but still a pretty cheap date. I also add it to my daily calorie count. I have not noticed any ill effects on my weight loss or maintenance.

Hey Sheena,
I am glad to read that you are feeling better.

Hey Cat,
I hope the tests go well for you.

Hi Henryswifey,
Welcome. It is great that you are starting slow with some low impact exercises. I did the same starting at 5 minutes a day. Also, glad to read that you are going to tackle the eating obstacle. I to had to fight that same battle. It got easier for me; now it is just how I eat.

Hi imadreamer1983,
Welcome. I went and watched a Zumba class once. That was when I realized that I have no rhythm.

Hi everyone,

If you get a chance, look up HIIT (high intensity interval training) or HIRT (high intensity resistance training). I have been doing these for the past couple of weeks. I have also increased my calorie intake another 300 calories (I have been drinking whey protein for muscle building) for a total of 3300 calories a day. Even with the increase doing the HIIT and HIRT I have lost 4lbs. I wish I would have started it sooner when I was in my weight loss mode.
