6 year old acting dumb
My son turned 6 last week and has started acting dumb. He has been reading simple books to me since around Christmas, with help on only one or two words. Since last week however, his teacher has sent a note home almost everyday with a new list of words he doesn't know anymore. He is acting like he doesn't know how to sound words out, he is acting like he doesn't know the words period.
I am at my wits end ... I know he knows the words, I know he knows how to sound them out ... I'm aggrivated and I'm frusterated. Any words of wisdom from parents out there would be great!

I feel ya
My son is 9 and he does the same thing. He started reading at 5 years old. Now he acts like he can't even read his assignments from school. It frustrates my husband and I . We both think that he's doing it just so he can be more like a friend of his. A kid who is annoying, obnoxious, and acts stupid (I don't think he is dumb either but it is how he acts).
I keep on trying to encourage my son. I say, "I know you can do this." or "You're a smart boy, you can figure this out."
If we ever move to a state that has more friendly homeschool laws I might go back to homeschooling him and my daughter.

It could be his eyesight
Could it be that his eye sight is strained? Sometimes when there is a growth spurt the body can be strained in other ways. If he can't see well he may be confused and scared and not know how to handle the fact that he can't see the words.

hmm
It sounds like he mirroring another child, maybe that other kid that acts like that gets extra attention in class from teachers or students. My brother did the same thing when he was little. My mom went in for a parent teacher interview and when my brother was asked a question he knew the answer to he replied by saying " me no know" when he knew proper grammer. I think he was just looking to get attention. Who knows, hopefully it's just a phase! good luck!!

My son goes through this every once in awhile. I think it started with him getting more one on one time at school and less homework by being behind (I don't see how the school thinks that would help).
I just remind him of all the things he gets to do because he is smart enough. Usually gets him to try to show me how much he does know.

They instinctively know that more pressure will be put on them
when they are smart or quick learners, they often do this to mask their ability. It's a strategic default. LOL Plus it's more fun to goof off.
