72 years old & still yo-yoing! Help!
I have fought this battle all my life. When I reached 287 in my 60s I panicked. 300 pounds! NEVER! I lined up a class, joined a study, had a buddy, and lost 30 pounds! Yaaaay! Then I gained back 12; lost 20 etc., etc., etc. Over 5 years, with a last 30 pound push, lost a total of 60 pounds. Now I've gained the 30 pounds back. I have no support and haven't been able to figure out how to get it. I'm 72, arthritic knees, no stamina, little energy and my only income is Social Security. I know all of this stuff -- I just can't, or won't apply it consistently. Is there any support out there?

I feel your pain----
This is a journey that you HAVE to daily track your exercise and food intake in order to see results. There's lots of better educated people than myself that post on these forums on exercise and diet and nutrition. I've learned so much from these mentors. Don't you sometimes wish we could "turn back time" just a little. Age creeps up on you fast and with age comes lots of other issues that I don't care for---ps and wrinkles are only a minor part! Stay focused!

Shorten the yo-yo string
I have learned one thing from being overweight all of my life, that we will always go up and down in weight throughout life. Priorities change. Life happens. You're not always going to be able to be as strict as you were on a diet. It is a life long commitment that needs to be made to eat healthy, not just eating less for awhile to lose X amount of pounds and then you are done. Once you "get it" then you are able to shorten the yo-yo string to use your phrase. Instead of gaining 20 or more pounds, monitor yourself and change when it is 5 or 10 pounds. If you see yourself creeping up those few pounds you know not to have that extra dessert that day. It takes lots of patience and confidence in yourself. You've already demonstrated that you know what needs to be done to lose weight, but sometimes we sabotage ourselves because that little voice tells us, "but you'll just gain it back again" You have to be aware of that and keep telling yourself to ignore that voice and just keep doing what you need to do.
