Are you concerned abt "pink slime" in ground beef?
Hitting the news this week was the fact that some grocery stores, including the high end stores, are adding this "pink slime" made from fatty beef parts, is being added to ground beef as a filler....how in the world can they do that? I thought the FDA had to approve all this stuff but I guess not!

Soylent Green?? LOL
When I read the headline about ":pink slime:" I thought it was something for kids, like silly putty or playdough, boy was I wrong! Wow...what a gross thing! I don't eat much red meat, but it is concerning. I suppose we are just victims to whatever "they" allow. Lot's of natural food stores, and organic beef raisers, are getting heat constantly from the powers that be. That is the World we live in-shopping locally and staying away from big chain stores helps, I shop at some of the big chains, but do try to give support to local farmers markets and the like. It makes a difference.

pink slime
I have avoided ground beef ever since I saw the episode of "Food Revolution" where I learned about pink slime! It is wonderful that the fast food chains and now some grocery stores are refusing to use it. Until this publicity and outrage it was reported that at least 70% of all ground beef consumed in America contained pink slime! The irony is that the ammonia added to the sub-standard product to kill the e-coli may not have been very effective considering that the cases of e-coli poisoning began to increase after the FDA approved pink slime for use.

Reminds me of...
Toxin, by Robin Cook and the old classic The Jungle, by Upton Sinclair. I remember reading both of these, the Jungle in high school was pretty shocking, but later in life reading Toxin-really makes an impact, also considering all the many cases of e.coli that have arisen in recent years. It really all boils down to greed. Anyway, nuff said. I actually can not believe (can't claim ignorance) I can even still crave a good hamburger once in a while!!
