Busy Student. Any tips to weight loss?
Hello :)

My name's Lea, I'm a high school student. Recently I've hit about 180 - a weight I'm certainly not proud of - meaning that I've gained about 45 pounds in the past two years. (Ouch.)

Firstly -- school lunch & snacks. We all know that despite the fact that school lunch is supposed to be nutritious and great for you, it tends to lack in that. What's even worse is that my school is super small and does not offer alternate lunch options.

As said in the title, I'm really busy. I'm involved in tons of extra-curricular that take up a good portion of my time. Therefore, planning extensive menus are kind of out of the question since I would have to stay up extremely late to fix them. However, I would me more than open to taking healthy snacks (my teachers are relatively easy-going in terms of snacks). Lunches, too, but I bet that those are harder to find in grab-and-go form.

One other huge factor is that all my closest friends are twigs. They can eat whatever, whenever, and not gain weight. It might sound silly, but that's a huge concern of mine. They're great friends, don't get me wrong, and they would understand my case if I requested eating at healthier restaurants. But I don't want to be a bother to them if they want to go somewhere unhealthy (i.e. McDonalds/Burger King/etc.)

Getting right down to it, I'm only asking this: Please please PLEASE, if you have any tips or tricks on dieting for a busy student, I would really appreciate if you share them with me. I really want to get ahold of my weight again unlike just quitting like all of my other attempts. I could just really use some advice and encouragement right now.

Thanks so much!
Lea S. :)

Hi there. I understand busy! I'm a wife, mom of two small children, I work two jobs (7 days a week) and have many extracurricular activities. Before I lay out my tips, I might challenge you to think about what has changed in your life over the last 2 years that has lead to this weight gain. Really taking the time to assess that - you may realize what it is, and can change that directly. Doing sort of a "root cause analysis" to see what the true cause was for gaining the weight to begin with. For example, in high school, i was very active in sports...then in college, I stopped playing sports. BAM! There was the cause of my freshman "20". Ok - more like 80. Yes... I gained 80 lbs. :(
Anywho - as a busy lady, here are my tips to losing weight (and I've lost 72 lbs and counting so far)...
1) frozen meals! I keep the freezer stocked with them. Super easy, fast, and can be taken for lunch without a second thought.
2) if i go out to lunch with friends / co-workers to maybe a "not so healthy place"... it's still easy to order food that isn't packed with fat and calories. Fast food restaurants I'll either get a salad, or eat a kids meal, or eat just a burger, with no fries and a diet soda. That being said, I will definitely balance out my day. That means fruit, veggies or a frozen meal for dinner. You can't live life afraid of living life! There will be meals out with friends. Watch what you eat - moderation, moderation, moderation!
3) i gotta say - fitclick has helped me tons! I remember what i've eaten, and log it in. Losing weight is nothing more than MATH. Eat less than you burn. Simple. No gimmicks, no diet pills. I try to stay around 1100 - 1200 calories (because I have a desk job and am not very active).
4) get exercise in where you can. You go to the mall with friends? that's walking! it's super simple to get bits and pieces of exercise in. Don't get in the mind set that exercise means "going to the gym". I don't go... but I've been pretty successful at loosing weight. I don't look for the closest parking spot at the grocery store. I park further, and walk. It counts!

Anywho - I hope you are still active on this website. I see i'm responding to an older message.

Take care and good luck!
