Calories burned dusing exercise
Hi, I have just returned to FitClick after about 2 months. I was ill and other situations kept me from tracking. I know the ins and outs of tracking and keeping records for exercise as I am a former Weight Watchers leader. My problem is this!!
According to FitClick calculations I should be eating 1250 calories to loose. I just turned 70, 5'5" and weight 163. It seems that the lowest of can get down to is 158. I keep to my calories except on Saturday night, but I am up at lease 2 pounds by Monday, I do adjust them for the rest of the week but I feel like I am starting all over. I work out four days a week some days my routine burns 400 calories. Am I giving my body mixed messages? I NEED TO LOOSE 10 TO 15 POUNDS NOW. PLEASE can anyone help from FitClick..

I will apologize for the "stupidity" of 8191's response.
Unreal. Anyway...we do have folks on here who don't even read the post or care what they post!! They do it for points. DARN!

I have belonged to WW in the past, and I will simply advise you to keep with what you are doing but don't follow the point system, count cals but LESSEN the starchy/bread/rice/sweets CARBS. You will lose.

Exercise and my Calorie intake
Thanks for responding. I do my heavy exercising on the days I am cutting calories to make up for the weekend. If I am only allowed 1250 per day and burn 400, something is not right. I had the problem before with WW and I needed to increase my intake on those days. Anymore advise would be appreciated.

Your question is great but the answer is complex because there are so many different variables and approaches. I have lots to say about clean eating, real food, exercise habits and macro-nutrient ratios but if we are just addressing calorie balance this is my advice... Do you use the "My Progress" page? It is a great tool! It calculates your daily calorie surplus or deficit based on food eaten minus BMR minus exercise calories. For initial weight loss, try to get a deficit of 800 calories for 7 days. After 7 days your leptin hormone will plummet and you will risk a metabolism slow down and muscle loss! So after 7 days of an 800 calorie deficit, it is important decrease the deficit to 500 calories and remain there until your weight loss plateaus (about 21 days). If you go 2 full weeks without losing more than 1 lb it is time for full metabolic recovery. That means eating at a BALANCE (0 calorie deficit) for at least 14 days. You will probably begin to lose weight again at the calorie balance because the calorie increase will rev your metabolism. Eat at a calorie balance or slight surplus until you are a full metabolic recovery. That takes at least 14 days. Then begin the cycle again by returning to the 800 calorie deficit for 7 days and so on. This is the method I used when I lost my 120 lbs.

WOW
Wendy, where did you learn all this stuff? Your advice is great and maybe that's what wrong with me. Never adjust my deficit calories. I am still amazed at your weight loss...
