I have a 200lb St Bernard and a part Wolf and Husky mix, both good pets very loving but lots of work. Best dog I've had is a Basset Hound she was very easy to train and was so good with kids. Very smart dog.

Cocker Spaniel, Dascund Mix
I have a Cocker Spaniel/ Dascund Mix. She weighs 19 pounds. She's very friendly, loyal, playful and was extremely easy to train. She gets along great with kids. She's a very lovable dog.

You may want to get a active dog while walking.

It is not the breed you need to consider it would have to be the actual dog. :) Every breed has good dogs and not so good dogs and they all have different traits. If you are concerned about what the dogs personality will be as an adult dog. I would take your daughter to a shelter and adopt a wonderful dog that has been temperament tested and you will not have to go thought the whole potty training, chewing all your things, and howling all night puppy stage. plus you will be saving a life! If you do not have a lot of experience with dogs. I would get a smaller to medium sized dog. Just make sure the dog is a good fit. :) I trained dog for rescues, so that they are ready for their new home. I personally have a Pit mix, a Cane Corso (Italian mastiff) , and a Dachshund. Out of all of them my pit is the best trained, best behaved, and best mannered. The problem with Staffordshire Terriers ( pit) is their loyalty to their human(s). I would not suggest as a first dog. My mastiff is a hand full, He is scared of everything and very unsure of things. Well the dachshund is full of lots of energy and bounce off everything. lol I wouldn't trade them for the world.

German Shepards Are Great!
I have two daughters ages 12 and 10. We bought a german shepard puppy because they are very gentle dogs and protective as well. Even as a oversized puppy our sweet Vikan would cater to the girls and considered them His! Lol! Saying this....Vikan was very smart, obediant and overall a terrific dog. He died last year from an accident (my baby) and although I could Never replace him...our next pup will be a G-Shepard.

Hth!
