Cortisol
I attended a seminar on stress last week. The doctor presenting said stress causes the body to produce cortisol and that too much cortisol can lead to fatigue due to insufficient deep sleep and weight gain because the metabolism is suppressed when cortisol levels are high. Since I can't do much about the stress I face and I'm not a big fan of medications unless they are absolutely necessary, I'm looking for suggestions that others find work for them. I've started deep breathing and lavender aroma therapy but are any of you using other natural remedies to reduce cortisol levels?

I wish Mine are most likely sky high. . .
although since I lost 27 lbs, I sleep better than ever, but it was a blood sugar imbalance mostly. Now I know what not to eat, and what not to eat before bed. I have had a very stressful last 7 years, not a day has past that I haven't had personal, financial, emotional, and mental stress, so I am probably the quinessential poster child for high cortisol. LOL. Listening to music or Zen Garden on youtube helps tremendously, calms the savage breast.

Stressbusters
I love the advice "Don't sweat the small stuff. And it's all just small stuff." Staying hydrated will help in elevating energy levels so I try to drink at least 8 glasses a day. Still working on my caffeine intake as that doesn't help but I think the #1 stress buster is a good cardio workout. While strength training is good the body sees it as a stressor. Could be why I do way more cardio than strength.

When running the body on a prolonged calorie deficit,
cortisol stays in your system longer causing metabolism to slow,
hunger to increase and muscle conversion to energy begins. I
have a cheat meal about every 4th day eating at least .5% per lb.
of body weight.

I had a professional massage today (my first outside of physical therapy)... I am planning on scheduling one every month. Really seemed to relax me and relieve stress. Going to a massage therapist rather than a physical therapist is SOOO much more relaxing :)
