Metabolic boosters
One medium jalapeno pepper burns 40 calories once ingested. There are negative calorie foods as well. Celery is another one. They use more calories consuming them than they contain. Google "Negative Calorie Foods" and you will find many. Ice cold water also helps burn calories as your body tries to warm it after you drink it. Lemon in your water is also supposed to be good for boosting metabolism and curbing cravings. As Elliecat stated, green tea is also thought to be a metabolism booster, and is also a great source of antioxidants. The best metabolism booster I have heard of though, is weight lifting. Lean muscle mass burns more energy (metabolizes more) than fat, so it stands to reason,m the more muscle you build, the more calories you burn, even while at rest.

more
This website deals with metabolism as an effectof hypothyroidism, but had some good information.
http://thyroid.about.com/cs/dietweightloss/a/12ways.htm
This site has a list of negative calorie foods, and gives a great explanation of how this concept works.
I also read that calcium helps increase weight loss by 50%, and not eating breakfast every day slows metabolism down...hope this info helped!

Lemon
Try a squeezed lemon in some water for your morning drink, lemons help a sluggish digestive system and will help get your metabolism going!

Spicy food!
Spicy food literally increases your metabolism to increase your body temp. Cayenne peppers in particular are terrific for hypothermic impact and have a lot of flavor, as well as other health benefits. I grow them and add them to many dishes that I cook - green ones are also especially rich in antioxidants. One plant can produce hundreds of peppers, and they are very easy to dry (just leave them out in an open-weave basket) so you can have them on hand for year-round use.
Caffiene also boots your metabolism by increasing your heart rate - but too much can put stress on your heart and lead to other problems. 1-2 cups of coffee a day is beneficial...4 or more can be problematic. Green and white teas have higher caffiene levels than other teas, and green tea has the added benefit of tons of anti-oxidants.
Doing 30 secs of jumping jacks (or jump squats, or something similar) first thing in the morning will also get your metabolism to spike and give you a boost for the next few hours.

Leslogos...Hyperthermic Reaction
Spicy foods cause hyperthermic reaction...(hypo would be lower temp). Do you grow peppers year around? If so, are they indoors, and which type of peppers do you prefer for more flavor as opposed to pure heat?

peppers
Hyper...yes, thanks!
I don't grow them year round - just Spring-Fall. I've grown cayenne and banana peppers...and bell peppers of course. Haven't experimented with many different ones. Cayennes are a type of chili and they are by far my fav - so easy to dry (so I have them year round) and I put them into all kinds of things I cook - I love the flavor and the heat.
