Frustrated!!
Wondering if I am alone. I gained about 15 lbs after quitting smoking 3 years ago. Since then (and before I quit) I eat very healthy, excercise regularly, but can't seem to budge the scales. I cut everything that needs to be cut from my diet, and now I am even counting calories on this site. I always consume the right amount of cals per day and workout for at least 5 days a week for 40 - 90 mins a day (crosscountry skiing and running). I realze that I have built muscle, however I haven't been building it for three years now :). Any ideas?? Thanks P.S. I don't agree with high protein diets (ie atkins like) as I do quite a bit of cardio.

Are you...
eating enough for how much you work out? Smoking does speed up the metabolism, however after three years your body should have adjusted!
Try adding some healthy fats into your diet, and even some more fiber and protien. Usually when your body is hanging on to fat it's because you aren't getting enough calories and or healthy fats in your diet.
If you are still having the problems, you might go to the docotor and get a check up ... my Aunt gained almost 50 lbs when she quit smoking and found out she had hypothyroidism that smoking had masked.
Hope any of that helps! Good Luck!

there is hope
muscle does weighs more then fat.. worry about your inches, not your weight...
take an honest look in the mirror (naked) even better, take a pick in a bikini and do that every few months to see your results.
also, as we age, our bodyfat goes up if we like it or not.. just keep working hard and don't give up..
plus, our bodies need to be shocked.. change your exercise program every 4 to 6 weeks.
go see your doctor, you could have for example an under active thyroid..
