HELP My Boring Routine!!!
Hello,
It's been over 2 weeks since I've started changing my lifestyle. So far I've been doing well except for the past couple of days I've been really bored with my fitness routine. (Wii fit for half hour, then dog walk/hike through the trails for an hour). I'm happy I've got a routine going now but I feel bored.
Does anyone have any suggestions to switch things up a bit that isn't hard on the knees?
Help!

Eliptical
Yah I keep reading blogs and other stuff on this website that the eliptical is what gets some results. When I used to go to the gym I spent lots of time on the eliptical it was my favorite machine but aren't they really expensive...plus we live in a very smally basement suite and there is no storage at all. I don't think we'd be able to fit one in here...unless there is a foldable one...I don't know, I guess that's something I can look into.

free weights
Get a lady's free weight workout book and some light dumbbells; they come in pretty colors, now! Storage space requirement is just about zero.

I highly recommend getting three pieces of equipment, it will cost about $60 and be the best money you ever spent. first a jump rope with weighted handles. jumping rope is great cardio, plus the weight in the handles makes it a total body workout. second is a bicycle inertube, cut it in half you have a resistance band that is a hell of a lot more durable. third is a 10-20 pound kettlebell. these are probably the most versatile weights you can find.
if you want to stick to basics, next time your watching tv, lay on the floor pick up your head and keep your feet up 6" off the floor.

Interval Training
Have you tried interval training?
That is how I kill my boredom.
Basically, you increase your effort periodically and the follow it with a rest period.
i.e.,
5 minute warm up walk
30 seconds jog/walk fast
90 seconds walk slow
30 seconds jog/walk fast
90 seconds walk slow
...
30 seconds jog/walk fast
90 seconds walk slow
30 seconds jog/walk fast
90 seconds walk slow
2 minute cool down
Do the fast/slow intervals about 6-8 times for a workout. Work up until you are going 100% for the 30 seconds - I mean like sprinting.
I find this a lot more fun then walking/pedaling normally. (You can do this on a bike too - just increase your speed and tension then reduce them).
