Help! Stress Eating Ruins my diet today....
Got stressed out and splurged on Rallys/Checkers today. Completely messed my calorie count up so now dinner is very limited....not that I am that hungry. I am more mad at myself that I let myself do it then about being over in calories. I do give myself a day to "splurge" a little but I completely over did it!
How do ya'll keep from doing this???

It happens
I have had times when I splurged, and I still splurge every once in a while. It happens I cant help it. I learned to get over it. I am not going to get healthy in one day which also means that I am not going to loose all the hard work I put in to loose 220 lbs for one day of splurging. Just get back to your routine. Since you have already splurged, skip or reduce the day you have set aside for the scheduled splurge.

I might know a little trick...
I was watching Dr. Oz last week. He had a guest on with a pretty crazy diet plan. There was one thing that stuck for me, though. He says you can have a splurge day once a week. The trick? Drink a little grapefruit juice BEFORE you splurge. Also, you can do excercise within an hour of the splurge. They used squats as their example on the show. Just simple, arms extended forward squats. Supposedly, the grapefruit juice does the some thing to your muscles that the excercise does. I think it opens something up to let the bad stuff go straight to your muscles to be burned off faster rather than it going to your fats which takes forever to burn it off.

It's okay
Hi Guys! I just joined and was reading your post. The thing to remember is your body will become very efficient at burning the same amount of calories if you eat the same amount of calories each day. If you eat 1400 calories a day your body will get used to it. Shake it up a bit and have a really low calorie day and a really high calorie day. I usually eat the same thing every day...but I mix up my dinners. I even eat McDonald's. Not everyday of course. When I did this religiously I was loosing between 2 and 4 lbs a week consistently. I'm hoping to do it again. Back in the saddle as they say....Good luck to all of you!

carefull with triggered rewards
I think that what really helps in moments likes this is...
1) dont let the guilt eat up on you. its very important to know you had a bad day and not to worry too much about it, its not like you will put on 100pounds over a night, relax.
2) the more conscious about what yu are, the less likely it will happen again. you said it yourself: STRESS EATING. work on finding new ways to cope with stress. I dont think exercising when stressed is a good choice either. I tend to smack some pillow and yell at the walls then I feel better. what you need to find is a way to cope with situations that dont trigger the reward mechanism in your brain. eating, exercising, and anything that will make you release a lot of endorphine into your brain will get you addicted, so do soemthing else xD

The the little trick.....
I watched and recorded the Dr. Oz show about the grapefruit. The trick is good for sugar. Drink the grapefruit in the morning or at least an hour before you splurge and do the exercise for at least 90 seconds like squats sometime after you splurge. The grapefruit helps use the sugar directly by the muscles instead of being stored in the fat cells. But, the trick is only good for sugars and starches.

regarding dawnmm's post
I'm glad you mentioned that episode. It did seem crazy. Dr. Oz and his network of professionals lent it an air of credibility, though. I've heard of the once a week splurge. I was glad to be reminded of it. (I've even heard of thin people saying they stay that way by splurging for two entire days a week, but that's for when we're thin.) The other thing he said was to eat 30g of protein within the first half-hour after waking. He said it could make you lose weight over 3 times faster. I tried choking down a high-protein bar the next morning, but I was not in the mood for it. (I actually did almost choke because I was half asleep.) A whey protein smoothie made with banana, juice & Benefiber works for me.
