Hey all you success stories, Help.
To all you leaderboarders who are at goal and still struggle with the battle of the buldge, any words of advice for those of us who just can't get with the program fully?

What worked or is working for you?

THANKS!

I agree with 1144. I have made small incremental changes and stuck with them over the past 4 years. They really need to become ingrained in a NEW NORMAL. I will post some here as I think of them :)

WATER, WATER, WATER!

A permanent change I have made is that I do not drink calories.
My daily beverages are water and green tea. My occasional treat is club soda with flavored stevia drops.

FAST DAILY...

Take a 12 hour break from food everyday! I have made this a habit. It is really doable and helps a lot. Plan to eat breakfast every morning. choose a time and the evening before stop eating at least 12 hours before your planned breakfast time. Read some more on this here...

EAT for nutrition and balance

We tend to be all or nothing creatures. People are either "not dieting" and therefore eating large amounts of unhealthy food without any thought or planning or they are "dieting" and basically restricting calories to an unreasonably low level that is not sustainable.

These are the baby steps that I took 4 years ago in starting out changing my eating patterns...

* Determine your basal metabolic rate, factor in your exercise energy needs and calculate the number of calories that your body needs to thrive daily.
* Then learn about the nutrition facts in the foods you like to eat and already enjoy daily.
* Then figure out the amount of that food you need to consume to support your energy (calorie) needs.
* Measure and track diligently to stay within your calorie needs.

If you find you are still hungry even when you are consuming "the right amount of calories" that probably means that you are not getting enough nutrients in the food you have chosen.
Analyze the nutrient value of your chosen foods and consider making small daily swaps and changes to your food choices. Over time I have been amazed at how much I have learned (baby steps) and how much I have happily changed my food habits.

KEEP LEARNING...

There is so much information available now!

* Find healthy food bloggers and read, read, read. (I have a list that I follow here...

* Google search phrases like "best foods to eat everyday" and "dangerous food additives" ... see where your searching leads you and how much there is to discover :)

I give myself one day to splurge during the week and I continue to exercise daily.

The thing that keeps me on track is remembering "every day is a new day". I used to be SOOOO hard on myself when I would "splurge". I'd get mad at myself, and just give up. I started to take a different approach. Every time I eat, I think "I am choosing what to put in my mouth". Every bite of food is a choice. If I'm having a hard day and I over eat, I tell myself, "tomorrow is a new day". It's ok. One moment or one meal or one day won't cause me to gain it all back (i've lost 72 lbs so far and counting). But giving up entirely can! Anywho - mind set is what has helped me the most. That and fitclick! It's all math! Eat less than you burn. Simple. No gimmicks! :) Never give up!
