High Protein/low carb
Hello all!

I have been working with a dietitian and we have finally figured out that what works for me is a high protein lower carb diet. I have a very good understanding now of good carb/bad carb, but I'm having a hard time still getting the protein in. Does anyone have any suggestions for foods that are high in protein, but not in carbs?

Trader Joes has turkey jerky, buffalo jerky, and beef jerky with no preservatives or artificial flavors. Very good high protein low/no carb snack :)

jerky
I agree with jj. I love jerky because it is high in protein and also no carbs. One son owns a taxidermy shop near me in Chama NM. Also my sons love to hunt so I have access to elk and deer meat. I make my own jerky. My favorites are red chili and terkiayi-those meats are as leaner than beef, turkey and others. The nice thing is I control the amount of salt I put on it and I make the terkiayi without the sugars.
Also because I live in a area where winters can get bad I keep jerky in my emergency kit. I have food saver that I use.
Almonds-keep nicely in my pocket when I'm outside
Hard boiled eggs-I peel them and keep them in frig for snacks
Good luck

More Non-Traditional Protein Sources
A few foods I eat to pump up the protein every day, trying to keep an eye on the fat content as well:

- Plain non-fat Greek yogurt (Fage is my favorite brand), mix in Splenda Granulated then add blueberries
- Kraft 2% string cheese
- PB2 (100% natural peanut flour, very low fat, 5 g protein, 5 g carbs - just add water and eat like peanut butter) I order from Amazon.com, I spread it on apple slices. It tastes just like peanut butter to me, but I never eat regular peanut butter anymore so I may have just reset my tastebuds.
- P28 protein bread and bagels - 28 g of protein, 24-25 g of carbs in a bagel or 2 slices of bread; order online from P28HighProteinbread.com.
- GNC Total Lean shakes - "ready to drink" are super-convenient, I love the vanilla flavor, 25 g protein, 6 g carbs, 6 g fat.
- Lots of high protein snacks and drink mixes available at mydietshopz.com.

Just ordered PB2 and another brand of peanut butter powder from netrition.com (some other "goodies" as well! :) ) ... Can't wait to try them :)
