How do I stop "grazing" while I cook?
I love to do tasters as I cook but I know that I am consuming much more calories by doing this...Any suggestions on how to break this terrible habit?

Chewing Gum
Try chewing a piece of sugarless gum as you cook your food. When your your finished cooking , drink a glass of water before you eat to clear the taste and smell of the gum so it won't mess up the taste of your meal.

Tasters
I love to do tasters. You watch any cooking show and the great cooks are always tasting there food to make sure that it taste good. It helps them decide if there needs to be more seasoning and so forth. One of my downfalls is when I am cooking bacon. It is just so easy to cook an extra slice just to munch on while you are preparing the rest of the dish. I recently just started getting strict with myself about that. In the case of the bacon I just told myself that you can only cook the number of slices to be consumed by everyone and not cheat. If I do then I have to track it and it is just not worth the extra calories and fat. It a hard habit to break and that is just where I have begun. Maybe you can find the thing that is your biggest downfall that you just have to taste and start with that one. Then it will make it easier for the rest. That is what I have found is working best for me. I am still far from perfect but I have greatly diminished my number and quantity of taste testings.

Re: Chewing Gum
Great idea! I use cinnamon (or other) flavored toothpicks as I can't chew gum due to TMJ, and follow with a bit of water to clear the taste before eating. It's one of my MAJOR downfalls as yes, most professional cooks DO this...we are TRAINED to do this...as a result, my family has a joke "Never trust a skinny cook!" Well, I'm going to prove that joke wrong :)
