Just starting out
I'm 35 years old male. I am just starting to go to the gym. I haven't been in one since high school. I am 235 lbs. and most of it beer gut. I'm 6'4" tall. What is the best way to start? I went for my first day and I figured I would start on Cardio and take it from there. Any helpful ideas would be great.

I m not that far off from where you are. I am 34 and I have done NOTHING since high school(except for a few 1 week binges of starting to exersise. I started 9/3/09 6ft 3in weighing 175. over the past 4-5 months ihavew grown to about 205 lbs and lost most of the xs fat I had...but it has taken a lot of work. I eat 6 times a day and only eat fatty fo0ds 2-3 times a week compared to every meal before. Also i do 3 hours of cardio/ week and weight train 4 times week. cardio does burn up more fat quickly in the beginning, but to make the changes for latter you need weight trainimng. when you lift, your body needs to repair its self. that takes calories. when your muscles are bigger they suck up calories. that is why pro body builders can eat 6000-10000 calories a day and have 5% body fat. They have so much muscle burning up calories. so yes cardio will help you quicker but weight training and cardio is much more efferctive. also when eating try to just leave 100 calories on your plate that you would have normally eaten ie don't put butter on your bread and use half the salad dressing, or just leave 3-4 bites on your plate either method is effective when combined with training. don't try to do it in a month. it takes time.

getting started
try letting FitClick create a "Select" track workout for you. just use the "switch" function on the tracker page and choose the option with "Select" track listed. determine how much you want to workout (be realistic -- the key to being in shape is consistent effort) and a plan suited to your level will be created. do that workout for 3 months (weights will adjust according to your input) and see how you feel

i lost 125 pounds
start by walking to increase energy then do some calastenics and from there a little weight training cardio is great but you can walk 9 hours a day you can only run thirty minutes oh and study. people think they know every thing iwalked it off you can to oh and drink water lots!!!!!!!!!!!!!
