NEED HELP PLEASE...Someone please throw me a lifeline...
I want to lose 3 to 4 pounds a week. I am not sure how to figure this equation out. It says I am supposed to have between 1260 and 1360 calories a day. I am thoroughly confused at how to figure the net catb thing out. Can someone please help me!!!
Thank you VERY much!!!

3-4 lbs
Losing 3-4 lbs is going to take some work ... to lose 1lb you need to have a 3500 calorie deficit (so if you want to lose 1lb per week you need to eat 500 calories less per day or exercise the equivalent of 500 calories) if you multiply that by 4 you would need to have a 2000 calorie deficit per day... if you are to eat between 1260-1360, you would need to eat nothing and exercise to burn at least 500 calories to lose 4 lbs per week.

This is likely not a good scenario, that is why a 1-2 lbs is suggested per week.
I would recommend that you find an exercise you like to do, that burns 500 calories (ie running or cycling for 1 hour) and do that every day. Also, if you incorporate some weight training and interval training it will help
I have been doing Jillian Micheal's 30 day shred and I'm loving it

Good luck

not such a good idea
The only way I know of to shed that kind of weight, is an Atkins type approach. Where you limit net carbs to 20 per day, and after excessive weight loss you gradulally add them back. Net carbs = carbs - dietary fiber. Atkins is a great way to lose fast weight, BUT you have to be very strict. There are no mess ups. If you go over your carbs for the day it sends you out of keosis (spelling?) The Atkins method works really well if you follow the whole plan to the letter. In order to do that you need the book. You need a source to tell you the net carbs of everything AND you have to carefully plan your meals. It's not for everyone. I've tried it several times and always by day 10 ish I feel sick to my stomach and am light headed. It is also crutial to go through the maintenece steps. If you don't you'll gain back every single pound.

If you just cut your calorie count down to something crazy like 1000 calories per day, your body will go into starvation mode and you may end up gaining weight. The best way to lose weight is to be realistic. A loss of 1 to 1 1/2 pounds per week adds up pretty fast. If you stick to your calorie goals, and go over once per week, plus excercise you'll watch the pounds tumble off. I've found if I splurge once per week getting to about 2000 calories I can take off 2 pounds instead of one. The math doesn't make sense but it really works. I've lost 26 pounds in 3 months, and it was really easy. I've found ways to still enjoy a healthier variation of my favorite foods, or just cut down the portion size, and still feel satisfied.

The one tip I will share, is to cut out anything that has more than 5 grams of sugar, and avoid artificial sweetners. For about a week you'll crave something sweet, but then it is gone. I have developed a new found satisfcation for the savory. I am using a lot of onions and bell peppers in my dishes. Not only is it high in vitamin c and antioxidents but they are very flavorful. Rather than adding cheese to my eggs - now I add a dash of ceyanne pepper and paprika (2 spices I never cared much for before) and I find it very satisfying.

I agree with colleenski
If you try to lose weight too quickly you could do some real damage to your metabolism and lose a lot of lean mass.

Here are a couple of things to try:

- shake up your workout by decreasing the time and increasing the intensity -- sprints, hills, kettlebell routines, burpees, etc.

- shake up your diet by removing something that you eat regularly. e.g. instead of eating potatoes, eat rice as you won't like it as much and naturally eat less

- cut calories at lunch. whatever you're eating, subtract 25%. someone tried that and ended up reducing cals overall

- eat 2 apples per day. high in fiber so it will fill you up. even try an apple before eating dinner as it will cut cals.

- cut down on snacks. there was a recent article tying weight gain to americans simply eating too often during the day. potions have increased, but not at the same percentage as the weight gain -- we just snack more

- if you must eat at night after dinner, try drinking some water, eating an apple, or even a small bowl of high fiber cereal with non-fat milk.
