New Diet?!?
Need to lose weight. Not looking to do any crazy diet by taking things out of my everyday diet then when i start eatting again i gain the weight back. I want a realistic diet and realistic exercise plan. Im a 28 yr old female without kids and i want to be healthy before that happens. By the end of high school I was about 160lbs and then went down to about 110lbs with pills-I dont want to lose it that way-i want to be healthy and do things naturally. Im back to 160lbs now! It needs to go! I dont want to be 110 again but i do want to be healthy. What are some good/easy diets? And exercise routines? Please help-I want to feel good again.

similar situation...and I did it!
I was in almost your exact shoes, except I was skinny all through high school and gained my weight in college & post-grad! I never "dieted" to loose my weight, all I did was make easy simple changes. I HIGHLY suggest the book "Eat this, Not that". It made me look at the choices I was making in the store, at restaurants & even fast food. Also, find a workout program you like, I personally am a HUGE Zumba fan (think dance/aerobics but way more fun!). Between eating slightly smaller portions, choosing better foods, and "moving more" I was able to make my goal weight in a little over a year. I know that seems like a long time, but it was the healthy way, and I know I can keep the weight off.

There is a way
Most poeple respond to weight gain by starting a low calorie diet. Without exercise a diet may be inefective and actually increase the amount of fat your body is likely to store. About 25% of weight lost from a low calorie diet is lean muscle leading to a slower metabolism. Over 90% of those who begin a low calorie diet without exercise, gain back more weight than they started.The worst part of this process is much of the lean muscle tissue lost while dieting is replaced by fat. The best way to deal with unwanted flab begin a exercise program which includes both weight training for increase lean muscle tissue. Aerobic activity to burn body fat. Then a monitored and ballanced nutrional intake.

Zumba and Protein
I recently lost 65 pounds in 7 months with a combination of exercise and diet. Zumba did wonders for creating a strong lean core (and it is a blast, love it), so when I started losing fat, I was left with muscle underneath. The diet was fairly extreme, focussing on feeding your body enough protein, but keeping the overall calorie intake low. You may want to up the calories, but as long as you keep the ratios similar, it should be effective, just a little slower.

Daily Average:
1200 calories
45% of calories from protein (lean, clean protein, no added sodium)
35% of calories from carbs
20% of calories from fat

The carbs should first come from fresh fruits, then from low fat whole grains. I also am a big fan of protein drinks and bars as snacks, as long as each serving has more grams of protein than carbs. Check out www.mydietsshopz.com for great products at pretty good prices.

I have been maintining the loss for several months, and now eat about 2000 calories a day, and shoot for >40% protein, <40% carb, and 20% fat. I wear a FitBit pedometer everywhere I go, and try to match the calories eaten with the calories burned (FitBit calculates that based on activity level).
