P90X for kids?
So I am new to FitClick and really excited to have found the site, but I have a question for this group in particular.... My 13y/o son wants to start the P90X routine as a way to encourage his 11y/o brother who struggles with weight for a number of reasons. My 10y/o daughter and I would like to join in & my question lies in the safety for each of us. My thought is that if we just do what we can and don't give up, we should see success in fitness, but I want to gather any thoughts from others first.

Hmmmmm...
Hi,
In my opinion, P90X can be done by kids. Although, the MANY sets/reps of chin ups and pushups expected from you in the video, will be MUCH too difficult for them. Tell them, just do what they can.

Also, I would ensure that your younger kids don't use the weights when called for. Use the power bands instead.

So, I say yes. The cardio, the plyo, the kempo, yoga, etc they can certainly do. Albeit, with a lot less intensity. When they exhaust themselves at a particular exercise, don't put added pressure on them to keep up with the instructor. Let them take a long breather. Let them shake out, or walk off the exertion. Then let them get back into it when they're ready.

Some videos are long. Some are well over an hour. Even if they can do 35 mins, they should be very commended.

Good luck!

But, I already know you wouldn't do that, right? :)

Thank You...
I really appreciate your feedback! It makes me feel a lot better. I have the power bands & have enough fitness experience from my own youth that it would NEVER occur to me to have them use weights, but at this point, I think it will be a great way to show them how a little push can bring success.....Besides, it will be a good Family time.

One more thing...
Do you have a suggestion on Insanity vs P90X or even another intensity work out?

NP!
*Ooops, about my... "But, I already know you wouldn't do that, right? :) "

Insanity is crazy intense. But, much like P90x, you're own intensity is determined by how much you push yourself to the videos. So in that regards, I also think Insanity would be fun for the whole family. And, if you're like me and my wife, and my coworkers (who've also tried Insanity with their families) you'll grunt, want to swear, and laugh together due to the difficulty of it all.
