Do people that start over lose the points they already earned and drop back down to 0 points?

Fortunately there are no restrictions on starting over...
I just started again yesterday after a lengthy hiatus. I am glad my account is still active and I didn't lose points.

that's right
We don't reset point values -- you can start and stop at any time as long as you're an active user at some point. (There's a possibility that we would archive user data at some point but it would be limited to users who joined but were never active users. to date we have not done that but it's possible)
