Wendy...I just picked up The South Beach Diet book at GOODWILL...
I have to say, I am like you in that i too read every diet/nutrition/food book out there. I know this was all the rage a few years ago...but saw it's shiny turquoise dust jacket and it caught my eye. I was most interested to see the dr.'s view on diabetes/diabesity/prediabetes and elevated blood glucose. Fascinating. Learning that it seems the high healthy fat/low carb(sugar/starch) is a diabetics best way to eat. Forget if you are or aren't diabetic, they say many people are prediabetic generally, b/c of the grain based diet recommended by the ADA. It's true that most all the health issues suffered by the obese/overweight start with incorrect eating, and not fully understanding blood chemistry and how INSULIN the Queen of the hormones works. Insulin is not just important for diabetics. It is important for EVERYONE. IT is the master hormone that is like a gatekeeper. It is in charge of unlocking cells to let in NUTRIENTS not just glucose. Once people realize that we are taxing our pancreas's on a daily basis just by eating the diet recommended by health professionals. I am still eating grains/starches but starting to feel like I need to really stop them completely. I am with you we as a NATION have been sold a bill of goods by big gov't. We are the victims. I don't advocate a dr. getting rich by revealing truth, but at least this dr. in South Beach tells the truth about how to lose weight/and keep it off and control blood sugar which is responsible for our overall health.

Lower your carbs...
Try eating 20 carbs or less each day. These should come from vegetables. Getting the most volume of veggies of those 20 carbs should be the goal. Don't blow it on a carrot or potato. Go for a great salad. Stay away from fake sugar. It will totally blow your momentum. Try it for a week. You'll be happily surprised.
