Sweet Tooth is killing my Success
I have a huge sweet tooth, in fact I may have a whole mouth of sweet teeth, but it is ruining my diet. i have tried to portion dessert, but i can't just stop at one, I also have tried sugar free, but then I just 10x's more trying to fill the craving. Are there any vitamins or tricks to help because I am going to gain weight instead of loose it. Also my cravings are the worst after I exercise. Any tips would be great!!

shake it up OR bars to go!
I also have a sweet tooth and I'm on a lower carb program... I found that having a Luna Bar (chocolate brownie type) once a day on most days of the week helps me keep my cravings down. Also, you could make some really great protein shakes and they're very filling.
Here are some that I make:
1/4 cup chopped pinapple (buy them already chopped)
1/2 banana
1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
1 scoop of vanilla whey protein Ice ... blend....yum it's a pina colada protein shake
OR a Reese's Type Shake
1 scoop chocolate whey protein
1 - 2 tblspns of all natural peanut butter
1 cup milk
1/2 banana
ice
1 tblspn of sugarfree chocolate syrup blend......
OR
1/4 cup frozen strawberry
1/2 cup frozen blueberry
1 scoop vanilla whey protein
ice
1 cup 1% milk
blend..........good!

Special K bars
I love the Special-K bars. They are 90 calories and taste like Special-K with Red Berries. I also love frozen grapes since it's getting hotter out now. If you're really looking for that special, once in a great while snack - betty Crocker makes single serve, microwaveable desserts. They're tiny, but really do hit the spot.

Cut it out
I know it sounds impossible, but if you cut sugar out of your diet, you won't crave the sugar. I've been sugar clean for 2 weeks now and it doesn't even bother me anymore. The first 3 days is the hardest, but believe me once those cravings ore over, it so worth it!

Response to Ready4size4
When you say cut it out. Do you mean any and all sugar? I really like fruit can I still eat that? I also like one diet drink a day can I still have that? Or are you talking about only the obvious sugar (cake, candy, cookies, those kinds of things). I am person who needs details and a set guidelines of what I can and cannot eat.

Also thanks for your ideas on the shakes if cutting sugar out completely doesn't work those are going to be my next step!

Cutting out sugar
I can't speak for read4size4 - but I have also cut out sugar and this is specificly what I did/do:
- no soft drinks, sweet tea, or juices (water, coffee, brewed herbal tea, and milk only)
- no foods with sugar added. This means fruits and foods with naturally occurring sugar is fine - but nothing with sugar as an ingredient...also no honey. No sweeteners of any kind.

I do not have a sweet tooth except during PMS but I do struggling with craving salty foods and I have noticed that since I've cut out all processed foods and gone low sodium with my cooking I don't crave salt anymore, so I think the theory that cutting your craving resolves the temptation has merit.

I do allow myself 2-4 cheat meals a week where I don't follow any rules and just have whatever I want - and I think that's important to do anytime you are following a diet with rules or elimination. Fail to plan or plan to fail - if you don't give yourself planned breaks--no guilt allowed!!--your resolve will eventually crack and the bad eating tear is likely to last all day or all weekend or even all week and that can completely erase any good a diet has done. Damage from 1 cheat meal isn't insurmountable - and there are actually some studies that indicate that having high calories meals now and then (varying between low and high) can be better for your metabolism (in terms of elevating it) than just eating low calorie all the time.

Thank You
Thank you so much for your tips. I am going to try my hardest, but it is going to be so difficult. I eat something sweet everyday, so i'm a little worried.

sugar-holic!
I am such a sugarholic! I could eat sweets instead of a meal! I also turn to sugar when I feel bad or just going through an emotional situation! It SO sabotage my weight loss. I will be doing good for a couple of days and then I go through this sugar binge! It is so frustrating! Any ideas on how not to sabotage myself and turn to sweets when I feel down!?

honey, I swear by it. a spoon full of honey right after a workout gives me this kick in the shorts. I've been doing that since I was a little tyke. if you want a more dessert like dish, take about a cup of frozen berries and eat them with a dollop of whipped cream sweetened with marsala. mmmm.
the fact is we all crave sweets because sweets means sugar and sugar means instant energy, this is especially true right after a workout when you just spent so much energy. this is not something you can condition you can control yourself not to give in, but you will always crave sugar after a workout. I say screw it listen to your body, just try to find a source thats actually good for you.

have you looked for healthy alternatives to the sweets you love?
I LOVE chocolate and had a really hard time staying away from it. I would try so hard not have any and then I would go completely overboard. I found these things called Vita Tops and they are 100 calories and are enhanced with all sorts of vitamins and have tons of fiber. The sugar free ones are really tasty too. I found them by going to whole foods and just looking around to see what they had (and checking the nutrition labels to make sure they actually were healthy). I have one everyday and it keeps me from ever binging on sweets
