Trying to get protein in with breakfast???
I am working a program that has worked for me in the past. It is loosely the zone diet but I do it based on the ADA (American Diabetic Association) exchange list. For breakfast the only proteint that I can seem to find is eggs which to be blunt will suck after about a week. What is everyone else using for protien with breakfast??
Thanks for your help!
Michele

Try adding protien powder
Hi Michele,
I had the same issue - I don't really like eggs and needed to add protien to my breakfast. Some mornings I make pancakes and add protien powder to the batter. Krusteaz makes a low fat oat bran pancake mix that mixes really well with MLO super high protien powder (some powders I have tried didn't mix that well and got sort of clumpy). Other days, I make fruit smoothies and mix protien powder in that as well. There are lots of good brands that have berry flavored protien powder that blends in nicely with the smoothie. I hope this helps!

protein for breakfast
Try GNC protein powder comes in a variety of flavors and really tastes pretty good in a smoothie. Also what about tofu?

skip the protein powder
protein powder is all chemicals that can wreak havoc on your gi tract. as for protein sources how about a slice of country ham, or just some leftovers, say pot roast, or pork tenderloin, that you had for dinner. on top of that what's wrong with eggs I can think of at least a dozen things to do with them off the top of my head. get creative play with your food, and think past the traditional breakfast.

oh yah almost forgot
if your looking for something a bit lighter yogurt and soymilk are both excellent sources of protein that don't hit your stomach like a brick. personally I cant stand soymilk, but I don't know what I would do without my daily yogurt.

add veggies to the eggs
I add diced yellow/red/green bell peppers, spinach, mushrooms, jalepeno peppers and cheese to my scrambled eggs. Not only is it delicious, but I get veggie servings with breakfast. Another option is to add hot sauce.

Proteins
Kashi Go Lean Original is very high in protein in relation to the calories and carbs it contains. It also tastes quite nice and is one of my regular standbys. I've entered it into the foods lists if you want to check it out against your allowances.

Protien
I have a hard time getting in my protein so I use a protein supplement that is used for people that are protein deficient from gastric bypass. Liquacel metabolizes right into the blood, no digestion. 1 oz = 16 grams protein. I choke down 2 in the morning It won't win awards for taste but it gets the job done

Make a smoothie
1 6 oz container of light yogurt
2 cups of fruit
1/2 cup of almond or soy milk
1 TB of natural peanut butter
or
try an apple with peanut butter
or
try a piece of poached tuna or salmon
or spend your carbs in the morning and have oatmeal or high fiber cereal. You can always add pumpkin seeds or flax to increase the protein.
