Weight Training after 60-70 years
Your never to old to stop weight training. Regular resistance training has a major health benefits for everyone. Some of the benefits associated with regular exercise are decreased insomnia, better circulation, increased mobility, increased range of motion, a decrease in the risk and severity of depression and an increase in overall well being.
Strength training leads to a greater sense of independence. Since many daily activities, such as carrying groceries or vacuuming are made easier. Weight training decreases the chance of osteoporosis, the likelihood of debilitating fractures caused by falls is also reduced. A study puplished in The New England Journal of Medicine shows a group of subjects with a median age of 89 years could significantly increase their strength levels as high as 110% of previous strength levels. Through weight training proving that one is never to old to build muscle.

I agree
You can weight train or resistance train at any age. My parents are 78 and 82 they love it.

Wish we could get more seniors active in exercise an
tracking their nutrition. Locally there is very little community support
given thru health clubs, senior citizen organizations and local government
to motivate and encourage a active lifestyle.

Sorry to hear that
My senior family members in NY state are able to take nutrition classes and cooking classes through Bluecross Senior. Too bad it sounds like that's not an option in your area.

Thanks for the motivation.
I'm in my 60th year. I have been a moderate to active exerciser most of my life. ltht fyears i have slacked off until this year. I have lost over 27 lbs this past year. For 2013 my goal to to get back into a 5 - 6 day a week strength / cardio routine with Yoga. fnd that the yoga helps to keep me more limber while the strength and the cardio gives me more energy and stamina. I enjoyed your blog, it was motivational. Keep up your good work...

Great info and motivation
Thanks! I'm only a few years from my 60th and I don't want to wait until I have a problem being active before I do something about it, so all I can learn about the ins and outs of physical activity is a plus for these old ears!
Keep it coming Freakfreeloader!
