What to Eat before and after exersise
My husband and I have joined the gym together. We go there 2-3 times a week after work. We are not able to have smoothies or cold drinks with us and we live far away from the gym so we can not go home first. We are @ the gym about 5:00pm and leave 6:30 by the time we are home it is 7pm.By the time we prepare supper it is 8pm So the question is what should we eat befor and after that will not sabatoge our working out?

I suggest
Keeping protein bars with you and eat one on the way to the gym so you're not working out "empty" - I like natural ones like Cliff bars. And make a protein shake as soon as you get home - so you can get quick nutrients in you and aren't waiting to refill until dinner is done. I do this myself - drink a shake while I'm cooking dinner and it works quite well.

You could also bring a bottle of water, shaker, and dry protein powder with you and assemble your own shake on the way to or at the gym - Syntha 6 makes shakes that dissolve really well into just water and are pretty tasty.

Support your workout
Make sure your pre-workout meal or snack is an hour before your workout or earlier (I usually eat two hours before a workout). Try for carb foods; proteins and fats really do not give you any support at this point.

After your workout, do not eat for at least 10 minutes (water or other fluids only), while your body finishes cooling down. You can eat whatever you want. Some carbs help with not feeling too tired after your workout. A small portion of sweets (a piece of chocolate) can make you feel energetic again - you trick your body into thinking it can turn off that feeling of fatigue.
