YNY, Cycling, Life Make Over
Just posted this on Mike's blog: Quote & Mike recommended YNY to me. I went from 218 to 184. I was pre-diabetic, but no more; I had terrible acid reflux and was on meds, but no more. My total cholesterol was high and I was on meds, but no more (total is now 169 and no meds) with equally good changes in HDL, LDL, and Triglycerides down from 200 to 54. I started to ride a bike for fitness, but was talked into competing in my county's senior cycling championships. Won those 3 races in April 05 on a borrowed road bike. Bought my own road bike in May. Won the North Carolina Senior Games Cycling Championships last October for my age bracket (65-69) in the 1 mile, 5km, and 10km time trials. In 2006 repeated my county wins; then won Virginia's senior championship for my age bracket at 5km (a TT) and the 20km road race. Won my first cycling marathon by pedaling 192 miles in 12 hrs (Calvin’s Challenge in Ohio). Have also qualified for the 2007 Nat’l Senior Games. YNY? Nope, I’m younger this yr than I was 10 yrs ago.Unquote
I'm 66 and probably in better shape than I've been in the past 30 years.
I ride my road bike 1 to 6 hrs/day depending on what I'm training for. The NC State Senior Games are 1 Oct. The cycling races are time-trials so I'm focused on building speed, which requires a lot of interval work but not terribly long distances (I have a good aerobic base) but I'll still throw in a 100 miler or more for fun every couple weeks. After the state finals I'll begin long distance riding to build for marathon events I plan to ride next year after the nationals as my ultimate aim is to compete in a lot of 12 and 24 hr races, races across states, and Boston-Montreal-Boston.
Becoming a well-conditioned senior has changed my entire attitude toward life. Who would have thought that getting old would be fun! I can't wait until I'm 70 as that will be a new age bracket for me (as one progresses thru each bracket you have to compete with people just moving into the bracket. When I'm 70 I'll be in the first year of the 70-74 bracket).
Pedal a lot, pedal fast, but pedal safely, Jack

Cycling is very necessary for health purposes and people have achieved a lot of benefits with this. I wrote an essay with the assistance of college essay service and did a lot of search on its benefits. I will post my essay on the website as well soon.
