high cholesterol diet
Hi Everyone: I had my physical last week and received a message from my doc on Friday to make an appointment about my cholesterol. Heart disease runs in our family. So, I need to make some major changes in my diet. I've been looking for tips and ideas on what foods to eat/avoid. I've already gone grocery shopping to pick up more fruit, fish and veggies. I have a membership at the gym I'm starting tomorrow. If anyone has any recipes to share it would be greatly appreciated. Also, is pumpernickel bread a good sub for white bread?
Thanks very much in advance.

breads high in fiber
increasing your soluble fiber intake has been shown to lower cholesterol levels. if you're a big bread fiend like i am, you'll want to stick to whole grain breads, oats and barley breads, rye bread, or breads made with chickpea flour. you also want to avoid using spreads that contain high amounts of saturated fats and trans fats such as butters and gravy. try sticking to nut butters, non-animal based oils (such as olive oil) and fruits as toppings for your breads.
