Great advice from 8191
but a very long response...
I suggest YOUTUBE...they have great workout training vids, step by step...etc. Mike Chang has a great channel.

Starting Strength or Stronglifts 5x5
Have you looked at either Stronglifts 5x5 or the Starting Strength programs? Both are solid programs that focus on the primary compound lifts (squat, overhead press, bench press, deadlift). They are perfect for someone just starting into serious lifting, and along with adequate food will put on lean mass. I wouldn't recommend starting on the a 5-day body part splits routine unless you are at least an intermediate level lifter (which for all I know you may well be). Check out http://www.strstd.com/ to guage your level.
