You can do it!
This is a common problem- I know I work out more consistently when I have someone I might be letting down otherwise.
Do you know anyone who has a membership at your gym? You can try to partner up with them. It helps if it's someone you see a few times a week, so that you can keep up with each other.
Alternatively, do you have a pal who likes to work out? Or one who also wants to "get back in shape"? These are people who can help.
Another, more expensive option is to get a trainer at your gym. It costs a lot, but it'll motivate you to start up, and it's usually easier to keep working out if you've started. Trying the trainer for a month and then weaning yourself off so you're working out independently might be a way to go.

Good for you
I know, working out alone is really hard isn't it? The post above me is right, everything they said is good. If you have a friend or family member who might want to start working out that's be great. It's easier when you have someone to talk to and to get annoyed when you 'don't feel like' working out :). But it is possible to do it alone, epically if you've got friends on a forum or something! Everyone on this forum is nice so if you can't find someone to workout with then you can always get online after a workout and talk to the people here. :) I know it's not the best substitute but there are plenty of people on the forums looking for people to talk to and motivate eachother.

Does your gym have a website?
I ask only because they may have a message board section where you might be able to post a workout request to other gym members. Perhaps someone else has been waiting for a workout partner.
Also ask at the desk if there is any type of partner sign up or if there is a community board in your gym ask the desk if you may post something looking for a weightlifting partner.

Hope this helps
I know this is probably not the safest thing to do, but I actually just walked up to a couple of people in the gym and asked them to by my workout buddy. The Gods were smiling on me and I actually found this really cool guy to work out with. I asked a couple of females but they just were not that serious and I really needed to lose the weight. We exchanged #'s and only met at the gym. That was 2 years ago. He turned out to be a great friend and a wonderful workout partner. He got on my nerves calling me every morning to see if I was on my way to the gym. The other great thing was that he didn't allow me to slack off at all. One day I came in crying and he told me to put all that emotion in to working out. He then ignored my tears and treated me as if nothing was wrong (which is what I needed)!!! Good luck!!!
