working out with back pain
I am 37 and last year i went thru back surgury to fix a herneated disc in my lower back. Was really really painful and a long slow recovery. I ended up gaining about 60 lbs! sighs. i had already put on 30 due to the initial injury. Anyhow now that i have almost 100 lbs to lose, my back is hurting so much still. (muscular pain) bending hurts alot. I dont have access to a pool, so i need to know what exercises i can do that will not hurt my back. Anyone have any input?
Thanks!

muscular pain?
I've never heard of muscular pain that severe. I suspect it's not muscular pain. I think you need to ask your physician or get a second professional opinion from someone who's familiar with your injury and the surgery you had. In the mean while, don't do any workouts that your doctor or physical therapist hasn't recommended. Just aim to keep your calories between 1200-1300 and you'll lose weight.

working out with back pain
I had lower back surgery too! They had to remove the 5th lumbar disk and replace it with a metal cage and do some other stuff too. My surgeon didn't want me in a pool, he wanted on the ground walking and moving around with limitations! I thought he was harsh! For 3 months I couldn't lift anything over 5 pounds or exersice, so the metal and bone could grow together. I could walk and that was all! Icould barely walk with a walker.I had to make myself walk! 3yrs later and fed up with physical therapy!!! I joined Curves! My doctor said if it hurt don't do it and if it didn't hurt then go for it, and I did. The trainers and coaches are great! and my back has gotten stronger and I have also lost some weight. I too gained a lot of weight due to back surgery.

working out with back pain
I just had the same surgery Feb 4th and I know what you mean. It hurt just to drag the garbage to the curb yesterday. But walking does seem to help because my job is a desk job. Right now my primary care says to walk and do a lot of stretching. I go back to the surgeon on Monday and I am going to ask him about exercise. I will let you know.

Yes, I suggest that same. Since your back is sore, you cannot do heavy exercises or weight lifting. So, its better that you try walking in your own backyard or walk around the concrete driveway in your compound slowly.
