Peel, quarter and slice the onions.

In a large pan, heat the oil over medium not heat. Add the onions, stir to coat. Cook until onions are translucent and start to brown.

Reduce heat to medium, low. Add 2 tsp sugar to onions to help them caramelize. When onions start turning a golden brown add the flour. Mix in well. Add the cooking wine and deglaze the pan.

Add the broth and worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil, turn to low and simmeer a few minutes.

Toast or dry out the bread slices in the oven at 300 degrees for about 20 minutes.

Divide the green onions evenly into serving bowls. Ladle onion soup over (about 1 1/4 cup). Top with a slice of bread. Top bread with swiss cheese. Heat in microwave until cheese melts. (or broil under broiler until the cheese melts.)
