Heat oil in a stock-pot over medium heat. Add the garlic, carrots, onion and celery and saute for 5 minutes. Then add the chopped tomatoes, stock, fava beans, parsley, oregano (or other herbs) and the bay leaf.

Bring to a boil, boil rapidly for 10 minutes then reduce the head, cover, and simmer for 40-50 minutes until the beans are just tender.

Add the macaroni and cook for another 10 minutes so that it becomes soft. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
