Saute onions in butter until clear. Mix hamburger, egg, pepper, salt, onion and cooked rice together in large bowl.

Cut the core out of the cabbage. Place cabbage in a large pot of boiling water and cook until the leave start separating, taking each leaf off as it becomes partially cooked. Drain.

In each leaf place a portion of the hamburger mixture and roll up, being sure the sides are not left open. Place each roll-up in a large pot as you get them completed.

Mix together the tomato juice and tomato sauce.

Cover cabbage rolls with the tomato juice/sauce mixture, bring to a boil slowly and then let simmer 2 - 4 hours.

Extra cabbage rolls can be frozen for use later.
