Brown beef in a nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Once cooked, drain most of the fat and set aside.
In same skillet, saute onion and garlic until soft in a little bit of remaining beef fat (about 6 minutes).
In a large stock pot, add cooked beef, onion and garlic, beans, tomatoes, broth, spices, and chocolate. Simer on low heat for 1 hour.
