Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Combine flour and sugar in a bowl. Cut in shortening and butter until mixture is coarse. Add potatoes and milk; mix.

On a lightly floured surface, knead dough 5 times. Roll dough into half-inch thickness. Cut dough with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on lightly greased baking sheets. Bake 15 minutes. Brush tops with butter.
