    Excellent posts above -- the key to it all is as lelogosdemoi says "stop when you're full." I think that's the hardest thing to do. Slow down, chew your food, don't eat junk and you'll naturally eat less. People eat so fast they don't let give their stomachs time to tell them that they are full. Make a plate with a balanced meal with reasonable portions. Then don't eat any more than that.
