This morning I had an appointment for my annual exam (it's been a few years, so I'm definitely due) and I arrived on time and everything was fine.  It hurt more than it usually does but she told me that was normal.  She finished up told me everything looked fine and went on her way.  When I got up to get dressed, I noticed that I was bleeding.  Not just a couple spots, but actually bleeding.  I freaked.  I started sobbing and couldn't find anyone, felt lik...

2 weeks

It has been two weeks since I started faithfully tracking my calories and making a concentrated effort to lose weight.  It is going well; I've lost about 5 pounds, I feel good, and I'm still motivated to keep at it.  This is the longest I have seriously stuck with a plan, so just the fact that I can say I'm still here is incredibly satisfying for me.  I hope I'll still be here in another two weeks, but for now, I'll work on sticking with it for the rest of today.

Good news from a scale, I know, I was surprised too

I was at the doctor's office today, patiently waiting for someone to come when I eyed the scale.  Normally I stay away from scales other than my own at all costs, for fear of being horribly disappointed.   But I felt good today - got up early, exercises, ran a bunch of errands (on foot), made a healthy breakfast and lunch; all before 10 am! - so I took off my shoes (everyone knows those things weigh at least 10 pounds, lol) and stepped on the scale.  To my surprise (and inten...

OMG Papa Gino's

Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 12:09 PM filed under Diet & Nutrition postings
My mother was kind enough to take me to lunch yesterday while we were running errands and we ended up at a Papa Gino's.  I glanced at the menu, searching for something that wouldn't spoil my dieting efforts, and found an eggplant parm panini.  I knew it would be fried and have a ton of cheese, but at least it was based on a vegetable.  Alas, alack, they were out of eggplant.  So I revised my choice to what I thought was a grilled chicken panini with a basil sauce.  When ...

Day Two

Well day two was a success.  I managed to eat well and get in a little exercise.  I have found that I can be the poster child for any weight loss program for about 4 days, then I get bored or lazy and that's the end.  My short term goal is to get to day 5.  Maybe if I plan on changing things up every few days I might actually see results.  Now, I don't mean switching from an Atkins style diet to the grapefruit diet; just a shift in focus.  For instance rig...

Bridesmaid Dress of Doom

 Unrated

My college roommate is getting married in July.  I'm thrilled to be one of her bridesmaids and she even chose a dress style that will actually be flattering.  But this means I have to admit my actual dress size; I have discovered this is much more difficult than pretending the clothes I have aren't that tight.

So, here I am.  I've tried to do this so many times, but I've never had a deadline like this before.  I can do this.  I...
