So, yeah ... it's one
small step for man, one giant leap for Katelyn! I am determined to get
this done - however long it takes ... but here's a little back-story:
I want to be a mother.
I have yearned for this for quite some time now (side effect from having
an awesome husband, and being an ex-nanny). My husband is quite
understandably nervous, cautious, and generally freaked-out by the idea of
this. He DOES want to be a father; he's just not sure that he wants that
NOW. We are young. He is 27 and I am 26 ...
and nobody really seems to be PLANNING to have a family this early anymore.
It seems like most first-time mom's taking this step are 30+. But
hear me out - we have been married for almost 6 years (in September), we've
bought a house, a dog, cats, and my career is progressing along nicely.
Yes, MY career ... that's probably the hitch in the plan here - Ben has
had a healthy amount of success for his 26 years (His band played Warped Tour,
he's a published writer, and he has interviewed Ralph Nader), but my man dreams
BIG (and I LOVE that about him). He has big plans for himself, and some
of those goals are right on the horizon. He'd like to have a full-time
job he can really be proud of before little-ones come along.
I TOTALLY get this. But I'm one of those people who believe deeply
that life doesn't stop when you have children - there is all the more reason to
go out and achieve those goals once kids come along. You don't have to
shut up shop, pack up all your dreams, and buy a minivan! I am SO NOT
soccer-mom material.
ANYWAY, as you can see
there has been much discussion and a decent amount of disagreements about this
subject - but in a very healthy way. So, I came up with a plan.
A plan that would give us both what we really need at this point.
I told Ben I would make him a deal - once I return to my pre-wedding
weight we will start TTC. This gives Ben some time to get his exciting
career prospects fleshed out a bit more, and it gives me something to work
towards while getting healthy.
SO - I am determined.
60 lbs to go. And here's the kicker - I have less than 6 months to
do it. Ok, ok, so I don't HAVE TO get it done by then - but imagine this:
December 15th we head
back to spend Xmas in the UK with Ben's family (BTW, I would love to be skinny
for this too), then from England we head to PARIS for a quick romantic holiday.
What could be better than starting our journey, and possibly conceiving,
in PARIS of all places!?! Too perfect! So... there it is, my plan
... and I need all the help I can get.
