FRUSTRATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

     I started a new journey in my life on Jan. 1st 2010.  I have always been an athlete, but never really looked like one.  I had about 50 lbs to lose when I finally commited to becoming more healthy.  4 months later, I still have 50 lbs to lose.  The problem that I have, is that I watch what I eat, I drink plenty of water, and I exercise a minimum of 5 days a week wile burning no less than 400 calories in a work-out.  I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.  I know that I am not building to much muscle when I work out, because I mostly run.  When I do run, I do intervals.  Usually running for 8 minutes and then walking briskly for 2, and then doing that for 30 minutes or longer.  All the studies that I have read say that if you eat healthy, burn more calories than you bring in every day and drink plenty of water, you should lose weight.  Why isn't it working for me.  My wife is the same way, but she is even more dedicated than I am.  She eats better and burns more calories than I do and she has the same problem.  If there is any one out there that has any insite into how we can fix our problem, please let me know because we are looking for anything that will work.  Thank You
