High five!

Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 11:57 AM filed under Weight Loss postings

I met my first short-term goal this morning: 213 lbs! It took me a couple of days longer than I'd planned, but even though I missed my deadline I didn't give up. I got back into it and reached my goal - and I FEEL FABULOUS!

A special thank you to Mygirl, Maddlin and Mizbehaven who have been cheering me on! This journey is much more fun and encouraging with you along for the ride.

So what's next? New goal, new deadline. I've been giving that some thought lately. I've decided to opt for another weight loss goal. So here it is: I would like to weigh 208 lbs by my Tuesday, May 25th weigh in (that's the day after the Victoria Day long weekend in Canada). That's five pounds. And what makes that goal even more fun is that in the process, I'll be leaving the 210s behind me and heading towards 200 lbs. Cool!

I'm pretty excited about the progress I'm making. I know I still have a way to go, but I'm headed in the right direction. The last thing I need to do is to ignore the fact that I was leading an unhealthy life and keep gaining weight. I am overweight. I need to gain control on this part of my life. As seen in my blog, I have good days and I have bad. That's normal; I accept this. I will have days with an iron will and others when I wolf down 2 small bags of potato chips. But I need to be able to pick myself up, dust myself off and get back into my new groove. There's no denying that I need to make permanent changes to how I eat and how much I exercise. While my stated goal is to reach 180 lbs, my ideal weight is in fact lower than that. But for now, I am working toward something that feels more achievable.

So to all of you who think this won't happen unless you get hard core, I'm here to tell you that slow and steady can win the race (or at least get one short-term goal closer to the finish line, at least). Set reasonable goals, reasonable expectations, remind yourself of why this is the right thing to do for you and join me on my journey toward well-being!
