Ok, I haven't posted much to this in awhile so thought I'd throw in a few words of where and what I've been up to.

Last race I ran was in October 2011, a 4 miler. I was pretty much the last "runner" but it was a cold morning and not all showed up that registered. Since I've been trying to concentrate more on karate than running, I haven't signed up for any races really. I did walk a 1 miler with my 2 daughters (6 and 9) and my wife this past weekend to benefit their grammar school. The plan was to run it with my older daughter, but she started complaining her heel hurt about quarter mile in. At least we all finished it together.

As for karate, I passed my orange belt test this past weekend. Slowly moving up the ladder, though I realize the more I learn, the more there is to learn. It looks like we'll be sparring more, so time to buy all the gear...sigh...been putting it off as long as I could.

I tried to follow a vegan lifestyle for Lent and succeeded about 2/3 of the time. It caused a bit of friction with my wife since she's usually the cook and she didn't like the idea of me eating separate meals, so I tried to eat at least something from what she made on days that we all were home together for dinner. Other meals I took care of myself with lots of beans, veggies and my biggest staple...peanut butter. On Easter, had filet mignon at my brother-in-law's...didn't feel so great for a few days after, but I've been able to work the meat back in now, just smaller portions of it. I'm following more of the eat-clean diet now which cuts out processed foods and sugars. There are plenty of vegan or vegetarian meals included, so it's a much more reasonable program to follow for me.

Finally, my brother-in-law challenged me to a weight loss challenge. Whoever loses the lowest percentage of weight by 5/31 buys the beer at the 2012 Crawfish Festival which we are going to that weekend. I didn't really have a reason not to, so accepted the challenge just as a way to stay motivated. I've been staying pretty on track other than a day or two here and there where I go off a little.
