Healthy Eating Tips For The Holiday

The holiday season is approaching quickly. This means holiday parties and treats. A lot of people tend to slack off on their diet around this time of the year. They want to enjoy all of the treats that they only get one time during the whole year. The majority of people think that they will just get back on the health grind whenever the new year rolls around. That’s not the best plan. There are plenty of ways to eat healthy while still enjoying the holidays. These are just a few of the easiest tips to implement.

Watch Your Portion Size

When you think of the holidays, you think of the endless amounts of food. It can be tempting to load up your plate and keep going back for seconds. You should avoid doing this. It is an unhealthy habit and creates a bad relationship with food. If you are conscious of your portion size, you will feel a lot better. You won’t have to worry about feeling bad and you will still get to enjoy your favorite foods. Portion control, as well as self-control, will be super important this holiday season.

Don’t Skip Meals

You may think that if you skip breakfast that you will be able to binge on your yummy holiday dinner or maybe if you don’t eat dinner the night before, you can eat all of the tasty Christmas pastries. This is not the case at all. Skipping meals and eating spontaneously will cause your metabolism to get confused and in turn, hang onto extra weight. Even if you cut down the size of your meals, just maintaining a schedule will help you to avoid overeating. So, this holiday season try to maintain the eating schedule that your body is used to.

Keep Moving

Since the holidays do take place during the cooler months, it can be easy to just curl up under a blanket and avoid exercising until it’s time to get in shape for summer. That isn’t healthy, plus it will make you feel bad. You don’t need to brave the elements just to get a workout in, but you should make an effort to get your activity levels up around the holiday season. This could be doing yoga, going to a fitness class, or even just taking the stairs when you would normally take the elevator.

Have Healthy Snacks Readily Available

Most families tend to leave snacks out around the holidays. So, you will be more inclined to grab these unhealthy snacks. You may not think anything of these harmless, little snacks but they can cause the calories to add up quickly. A good way to counteract this problem is by keeping healthy snacks on hand. You could keep fresh fruit on hand or even just a simple Le-Vel Thrive smoothie packer.

Find Ways To Avoid Overeating And Utilize Them

Overeating is pretty common around the holidays. There are plenty of methods to combat overeating. You can drink plenty of water before a meal, take slow and deliberate bites, or even just wait 10 minutes after eating before you head to the dessert table.

Stay Healthy These Holidays With These Tips

Staying healthy during the holiday season doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy all of the delicious food. You just need to be more conscious about your eating habits. Instead of eating a whole batch of cookies in just a few hours, save some for the next day or even freeze them to be enjoyed months from now. Just practice these simple tips and you will be able to enjoy the holidays without stressing over your diet.
