Chesterton once said that The artistic temperament is a disease that afflicts amateurs. Modern art is the challenge for the world and religion. The Immaculate Heart  Sacred created by Damian Hirst in 2007, which belongs to the conceptual art, is the recreation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

My first impression from the work was the immense sense of the devastating love. The love that lets go, the love that flourishes and is mature enough to make a choice and follow it despite the fact that everything left is the dagger centered in the middle of the sculpture. The dove wings arouse after the final hit. Despite this, the knife is the reminder of the price paid for the freedom. It looks like the play card, the stamp or sigma. The size of the sculpture is 36?24?10. The elements of the sculpture are a bulls heart, acrylic, steel, dagger, dove wings, silver barbed wire, and everything is in formaldehyde. At some point, the watcher might believe that the subject of the sculpture is the heart. However, all elements are the tool of the idea representation: the immaculate heart, even if hit by the dagger, has enough power to forgive. The heart, dove wings, and the frame are white. The only black element is the handle. All lines are symmetric and smooth. Despite the fact that white color might create the filing of the big spot, each element is seen separately. When to look closely, one may notice that the feathers of the wings still have their natural structure, while the bulls heart was rounded with silver barbed wire. However, the heart kept its muscle structure.

As it has been mentioned above, the only black element of the sculpture is the black handle, which might symbolize the intenseness of the deed. This element helps to create the contrast which, in turn, allows understanding and interpreting the elements of the sculpture. The doves wings with their symmetric lines create the balance. The silver wire is the hint on the chaos among the order, though it seems that because of this wire, the heart continues to beat. The wire is the symbol of the word and commitment. At the point when the dagger hit the heart, the commitment has been made; because of commitment, the wings arose and the freedom was granted. The only condition is to keep the word. The ideas that lie behind this sculpture are related to the Christianity.

The sculpture reminded me of the relationships between two people. In those relationships, for one it was a game, while for another  the responsibility. While one was the giver, another was the taker. Within the Erich Fromm's approach, people in the modern world are trying to escape from the freedom as it is a burden of their own responsibility and choices. The modern consumer society will rather support the idea of taking since in order to give something to another person, the taker has to learn to love, appreciate, and forgive. The idea of love actually implies developing the person that is near you so that he/she will be eager to give rather than to take. The reason for this is that in this case the human, who often is compared to the bottle or glass, will not feel empty and tattered. The topic of love is the main theme in literature and art. Every time the artist creates the work devoted to love, it has a purpose. The main purpose of the sculpture under discussion is that it is better to be in love, rather to fall in love. Everything what is done has the element of love. The most successful people love their job and appreciate it as the mastering of the skills, not just making money. As for the artists skills, this is the great example. The artist tries to raise the theme that the balance between give and take keeps the wings going u, to rise to the next conscious stage.

The way the artist realized this the idea is the best I can imagine. When I will try to do the same, I believe this might be copying of his idea. I would definitely like to buy this work of Hirst as it teaches to see the intention, and everything that appears beyond is the fuzz. As for my own art, I will apply the idea of contrast: knowing good and bad sides is the way to see the difference in intention. The work makes the watcher look through his own experience.

To conclude, Damien Hirst believes that love is not only the element of the physical relationship, but the gift. Everyone will see his own woes and grids as well as happiness and beliefs when having a look on this piece of art. My first impression has changed a little bit as I understood that on the basis of ones own experience every human being is able to reflect the idea, with the consciousness being not the last element. The artwork is unique and probably has been successful. The artist has done an incredible work to keep the balance of his idea and other elements. This artwork inspired me to develop my personality and myself in order to understand my inner world more. Only in this way, it is possible to create for others, for centuries. The Immaculate Heart  Sacred is the art category that makes the person see the reality.
