Getting started.....Again
So last winter I started getting more active, joined a gym, and was on track to getting into shape. Well, in June I injured my knee and spent most of the summer relatively inactive. In October I had surgery for ACL reconstruction with a cadaver graft. I am doing physical therapy at home now, but what I am struggling with is the fact that I am now the heaviest I have ever been. I am really discouraged because, at the direction of my doctor, I cannot return to the gym for a few more months. I have been trying to find exercises I can do at home that don't require weights or equipment, but a majority of them are too difficult, like they are for people who are already in shape. I just feel really lost and discouraged and wonder if anyone can give me some suggestions. Thank you.

Joining a gym for me is more counter productive....
I used to be a gym member at many different clubs, I always struggled with my psychology and my "ego" before i would go. I couldn't get over the whole "looks" thing...meaning I had to have cool sneakers, nice clothes, had my hair looking good, and also was at times not giving a darn about any of that, but the point is, the gym is not FOR ME if I have to have a pschological battle with myself b/f going! LOL! So now, I save the money and use it for healthy *more costly food) I exercise at my computer just do leg lifts, isometrics, etc. I lift my arms jump, do chair situps, drop down and do push ups, jog in place and lift my child in reps. I will tell you you don't need to go to a place to workout, just like you don't need to go to a church to be with God. It's all what you do with what you have. Little things add up!!
Good luck.

You tube also has good vids.
I usually find something helpful there.
Hope the knee improves....

How about light dumbbells for upper body work? Track your food here and make the calories count. How about some short walks?

Walking and dumbbells are my favorite non-gym exercises. I joined curves so I wouldn't have to deal with the "gym culture" :)

KNee Problems are rough.
I tore my meniscus (sp) years ago, and whenever it's about to snow...I feel major changes, mostly ache pain, etc. My knee is my barometer!
