Quick update

I am back to FitClick after my foot surgery last year. Started jogging/walking again in December in preparation for my first 5k on New Year's Day - "Hangover 5k" in Scotch Plains, NJ. Got postponed twice until end of Feb. I finished in a little over 43 minutes which I was very proud of (and a little shocked). Signed up for my next 5k right away to keep myself motivated. Ran that one in April at Brookdale Park, Bloomfield, NJ which had a lot of hills and I was sick the week before so didn't have high expectations of beating my PBR. Finished around 45 minutes. Did a 1 miler with my daughter (8) for her school. We got a late start but we finished. I had to motivate her the whole way, but she finished! I can't think of a better way to be a role model to your kids about staying in shape. I've still got a lot of weight to take off, but I take each day as it comes and do my best. That's all you can ask of yourself.
I've since taken up karate which I figured was more interesting than going to a gym all the time. Next race is June, another 5k. I hope to break the 40 minute barrier. Once I can get down to about 10 minutes/mile pace (about 30 minutes for a 5k) I'll try a 10k. My ultimate goal is to be healthy, so I'm not trying to come in first, but I'm happy finishing somewhere other than last which I have successfully done so far. Maybe in a couple years I'll be running marathons. Wish me luck!
