I'm a 24 Hour Fitness member and I have never seen so many people work out with this black arm band thing. What the heck is it? Finally I asked someone and they told me...it's the most amazing thing in the entire world! It's a BodyBugg! Partnered with 24 Hour Fitness and the Biggest Loser the latest craze weight loss tool was introduced during Season 6 of The Biggest Loser.
The bodybugg is worn on a user's arm. It has several sensors that measure calorie burn; Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) detects the presence of sweat, and a thermometer detects skin temperature. It uses this feedback to estimate how many calories are burned.
The bodybugg is intended to be used with a subscription website where the user can log their food and track their calories. The diet plan is based on caloric deficit, where the user aims to burn a specific number more calories than consumed in a day to achieve the desired weight loss. The bodybugg website focuses primarily on calories, with less attention to macronnutrients.
The KEY to weight loss is creating a Calorie deficit. A calorie deficit is
when you have burned more calories than consumed. Maintaining a calorie deficit over time is the main ingredient to reaching your weight loss goals.
The Bodybugg is not a weight loss plan but simply a tool to aid you in your weight loss journey.
I just bought one this afternoon. It's amazing that when something is calibrated to your body that you know exactly (well 90%) what you are burning. I was on the treadmill for over an hour. The machine told me that i burned roughly around 1000 calories where the Bodybugg said it was really only around 550-600. That is a HUGE difference when someone is counting their calories religiously. For months i was thinking i was getting a better workout than I actually had been!
So far with day 1 i'm impressed at how this tiny little machine can do so much! i can't wait to get up in the morning take my shower and strap this thing onto my arm! I want to see exactly how many calories my body burns in the time that i'm awake. While logging my food in and having every minute of my body being tracked i will be interested to see what happens. The true test will be next week when i do my weigh in and measurements.
Stay Tuned!....
Does anyone else have a bodybugg? had success with it? bad experiences? please comment!
