Communication is a central way of exchanging information among individuals. Traditionally, we use words and sounds to communicate in a verbal manner. However, there are nonverbal communication channels besides word expression. Thus, it is significant to learn the fundamental principles of nonverbal communication to improve the conveyance of messages and ideas to people.

In fact, nonverbal communication incorporates all auxiliary elements of communication that may support the words spoken. According to Engleberg & Wynn, a variety of nonverbal forms can be used in group communication, including physical appearance, facial and eye expression, physical expression, and even environment. For instance, a person might express with hand gestures to signify and actualize the importance of particular words. Technically, all nonverbal forms are used to facilitate and optimize interaction with other members of a group.

Nonverbal communication is based on the concept that our bodies have their personal subtle language of expressing our thoughts and emotions. The way we stand, sit, move, listen, and speak to others indicates our internal world of emotions and feelings that cannot be put in words. Thus, nonverbal communication involves such details as setting (space arrangement) and distance (close or public distance). In any way, nonverbal communication is a tool of improving our common verbal communication.

In my opinion, nonverbal communication will be always important in communication. It contributes to building strong relationships between people. Moreover, each culture incorporates its specialized sets of nonverbal forms, as nonverbal communications express important cultural messages. Sometimes, nonverbal techniques can tell even more than traditional words about our attitude to somebody or something.

In conclusion, nonverbal communication remains to be a relevant part of human interaction. People can effectively use nonverbal communication – facial expression, physical expression, appearance, etc. – to convey their ideas. Nonverbal communication is about showing an emotional side of our communication. Therefore, nonverbal communication is substantial at personal, social, and cultural levels.
