Strength Training
Training to maximize strength tends to be a much simpler pursuit than training to maximize muscle mass. The goal of a 5 by 5 training is to do 5 sets of 5 reps with a given weight. With a 2 min rest between sets. On the first 2 sets you possibly get 5 reps, if you get 5 reps on the 3 set weight is too light. On the other hand if you get only 14 total reps over 5 sets too heavy. This cycling of weight, reps , and sets prevent the muscle fibers from stagnating in the program, and therefore it enhances muscle adaptation. Great program!!!!

Thanks for your reply!
I am starting a 12 week program and hopefully I will see some major
gains. My gains have become stagnent and the change may be
beneficial.

Your welcome
12 weeks is perfect, perform the early sets with explosive power on each rep to recruit more fast-twitch muscle fibers that are capable of greater gains in strength and power. Fatigue will start to set in and the number of reps will fall drastically you will see major gains. Have a good day.
